We Got Hosed On That Call

The post title is from the Movie Major League when the Indians announcer Harry Doyle (played by real life baseball play by play man Bob Ucker for the Twins) contested a call that went against the fictional Cleveland Indians portrayed in the movie.

Why that quote is germane is because of the Monday Night Area Evaluation contest result as I placed second --- and I KNOW that my performance was a FIRST PLACE PERFORMANCE. I wasn't alone with my feelings but hey, contests are a frustrating proposition at best beyond the club level most times. It is like the playoffs in football as you hope to get the right matchups, you remain injury free and the ball just bounces your way more then your opposition.

The GOOD part of Monday's contest was seeing some old friends, such as: Sue Boe, Frank Shea, Melissa Stephens, Paula Walker, David Tassanari, Jacqui Roe, Victora Starks and others. I met some nice new folks as well...our new division governor is indeed a gentleman and who is genuinely interested in people AND he has a sense of humor. Very refreshing, indeed! Frank, Sue and Melissa always make me feel like a million bucks, I'm going to have to pop back over to Suncoast sometime soon even with all the changes going on. Sue's target speech was an emotional heart wrencher (not easy to evaluate at all!)

I was also relaxed and focused thanks to doing a speech outline before the contest and earlier in the day studying language at Erwin's Learning Center (I found that I don't do negatives well and that whole past, present and future thing really leaves me tense...) I like this whole schedule thing...it's tiring but it beats sitting around and doing nothing.

And as it turns out I didn't miss much of a football game Monday night...though Bush had a great night, Brees bit the big one and Deuce is out for the season.

And, how can I forget? The Rays beat the Yankees last night! Another great birthday present!
