Week 12 Part II

Week 12 began while everyone was preparing turkey or preparing to eat turkey.

For the Redshirts (10 – 1), however, 3 players shined through the holiday competition:

Jason Hanson (who scored more then John Kitna fantasy wise), Calvin Johnson and Arron Kampman lead the charge for turkey day and the RedShirts are holding off the Carpetbaggers (including one IDP Michael Boley who scored 17 points) 38 - 30.

For Tampa Thunder (8 – 1), Peyton and the Colts Defense scored all the points as they served up the Atlanta Falcons for the final course of the day as the Tampa Thunder produced all the points Thursday leading 38 – 0. Will it be enough?

And for the remaining 1st place team, The Afterburners (7 – 4) had Calvin Johnson & surprisingly Roddy White and the Packers Defense contributing to help balance out against Peyton Manning (on the other team in this match up). They lead 38 to 26 going into tomorrow’s games.

And just a little humor from punoftheday.com…

A lumberjack who couldn't hack it was given the axe.

Week 11 Fantasy Fallout Final

Welcome to the first of the short weeks as we enter crunch time for those of us that are positioning for playoffs (insert Jim Mora soundbite here) in our respective leagues. Here are the standings after week 11 and the Broncos beat the Titans.

The Redshirts win their week 11 matchup in a close one, 116 – 105. The line for The Redshirts is: 10-1-0 .909 1178.50 W-10. The Redshirts have a 2 game lead as the league leader.

The Tampa Thunder are 8 – 1, their line: PF928.15 PA722.75 (2-0) W3. They have clinched a wildcard spot.

The Afterburners are 7 – 4 after winning (thanks to Tom Brady’s Sunday touchdown explosion!) their week 11 matchup and are alone in first place.

The New Effect are still somehow alive for the playoffs after winning their game thanks mostly to TO’s 41 point fest The New Effect are in 5Th place but have to continue the winning streak to keep playoff hopes alive. The line for the New Effect is: 5-6-0 .455 1029 W-1

Week 11 Fantasy Fallout

Once again it was a weird week. I added about 26 fan IQ points with my picks on Fan IQ and fantasy this week just didn’t add up where you though it would…unless you had Brady, Romo, Moss or Owens. I was lucky to have Brady and moss separately on a couple teams.

Playoff Contention:

The Redshirts

Currently trail their opposition 102 – 105 with at least 2 IDP’s to play on Monday Night Football. The Redshirts hold 1st place with a record of 9 – 1. I’m playing the 2nd place team for week 11.

Tampa Thunder

In a division game, the Tampa Thunder lead their opposition 112 – 50. They still have the Broncos Defense to play, all my players are final. The Tampa Thunder currently hold 1st place in their division.

AfterBurners

Lead their opposition 92 – 91 with Jason Elam to play. Opposition’s players are all final. Elam is probable with a right calf injury. The Afterburners are locked in a first place tie with another team.

Notables from Sunday:

Tom Freaking Brady, Randy Moss & TO (even though the fantasy team he’s on has no chance at the playoffs).

How are the Buffalo Bills feeling today?

OH...and GO BUCS! Anyone up for fried Falcons today?

His Time Come Round At Last

They nailed Al Capone with tax evasion...Barry Bonds is indicted for purjury (for saying that he did not use what everyone knows that he used.)

Here is some of the coverage:

Slugger Bonds charged with lying

Federal grand jury indicts Bonds

Barry Bonds indicted in BALCO case by Federal Grand Jury

Wiki was updated pretty quickly

Of course no mention of this on Barry Bonds.com...

And finally, just because ESPN jammed 756 down everyone's throats...

Odds And Ends 11/15

And you think your cell phone bill is high... How about one for 10,000$?

Political correctness invades yet another aspect of the Christmas season...

And speaking of texting...you can now text message Papa John's your order...

And it's plane to see that this is news...

Week 10 FF Wrap Up

The week 10 fantasy massacre is thankfully over. It’s not all bad but the Tampa Bay – New England bye week was bad enough. Let’s get to the post mortem, shall we?

Yahoo! Teams:

The Contenders win their matchup 65 - 58 and move up to 4th place!

Studs: Drew Brees, Reggie Bush

Duds: Plaxico Buress, Minnestota Defense (nice –1 fellas)

The Redshirts win a very close contest 102 – 101. The Redshirts are alone in 1st place.

Studs: Brian Westbrook (3 TDS!), Jason Campbell (who would have thought, THAT?) E.J. Henderson (IDP)

Duds: Calvin Johnson, Chris Chambers, Nate Burleson, Tony Scheffler. (I won in spite of my WR's. You guys are killing my point production. Take 50 extra virtual laps around the field, now!)

NewEffect loses their matchup 68 – 94. They aren’t quite as bad as the Dolphins but close as they drop to 7th place. Not mathmatically elimnated but close.

Studs: Terell Owens (fianally!), Bush and Kitna

Duds: Everyone else.

Fleaflicker teams:

Tampa Thunder survive a scare, 89 – 83. The Tampa Thunder now have a 2 game lead in their division.

Studs: Peyton Manning (even with the 6 Ints), Portis, Jermery Shockey, Colts Defense

Duds: Everyone else

Stormfront put up a good fight but still lose, 55 – 62. The Stormfront have to win next week as they are in a three-way tie for 2nd place.

Studs: Drew Brees, Bears Defense

Duds: Everyone else (nice job with the –0.2 Hester & the 1 point Vinetari!)

Southland Bulls lose their matchup 51 – 79. The Bulls still have a one game lead in their division.

Studs: Seahawks Defense

Duds: The whole rest of the entire stinking team.

CBS Sportsline:

Afterburners (NFL) lose in their matchup 70 – 114. The Afterburners are now in a 2-way tie for first place.

Studs: Bengals Defense, R. Bush.

Duds: Everyone else.

Afterburners (NCAA FB 1 – A) win in their matchup 229 – 162.

Studs: Colt Mccoy, Callander and Kevin Smith take the contest!

Fantasy Sharks:

Bay City Buccaneers lose in their matchup 84 – 122, they are 2nd place in their division…somehow…

Injury concerns:

Marshawn Lynch is out this week and Plaxico Buress still has an ongoing knee injury.

Overall Standings:

Redshirts 9-1-0 .900 1062.00

Tampa Thunder 7 - 1 815.8 ( 1 – 0)

Afterburners 6 – 4 (Tied for first)

In Contention:

Contenders 6-4-0 .600 769 4 of 10

Southland Bulls 5 - 2 .714 558.65 (3 – 0)

Stormfront 5 - 3 .625 566.6 (1 - 2)

Bay City Buccaneers 4-6-0 .400 4.0 L2 861 (2-2-0) (Somehow these guys are 2nd in the West and 4 games behind. It is going to take a miracle, sports fans.)

2 0f 3 Contenders Still Alive For Win For Weak, er Week 10

The Afterburners lost taking their record to 6 - 4 the Redshirts are in a dead heat almost tie and the Tampa Thunder actually leads by 2 with all Sunday games done. And that was one crazy wacky day in football!

Cleveland almost won but Derek Anderson had a banner day.

Brett Farve continued to kick ass shutting out the Vikings 34 - zilch.

Jay Culter (like who would have thunk he would have been a good start today?) lead the Broncos to a win.

Drew Brees redeemed himself in the loss with his second half performance and is Marc Bulger fantasy relevant again?

TO's stats finally matched his mouth (which is yapping less this year) as Dallas KO'ed the Giants and Plax had an off day.

And who would have thought that Peyton Manning would throw five interceptions, almost come back but still lose thanks to a little moronic officiating and Adam Vinetari missing a chip shot go ahead field goal? I mean really, who would have forseen ANY of all this and all that I still did not mention crazy stuff going down today?

1 Day Till Week (Ouch) Ten

Three of my teams stand atop in their leagues...and those same three teams are effected by Tampa and New England having bye weeks this week.

Here are the (ouch, again) match ups I'm worried about...

Redshirts 8 - 1 Backup QB Jason (hoo, boy) Campbell vs. Philly. Let's hope Philly continues being Philly. Backs on this team are Edge and Marshawn Lynch along with Calvin Johnson, double C Chris Chambers and Nate Burleson.

Afterburners 6 - 3 also have Brady and the Bye...Brian Griese hopefully will put up decent numbers against the Raiders even with the interception threat. Marion Barber and Bush are the backs and the same 2 WR's are on the team with No. 3 here being Roddy White.

My third top placed team has Peyton Manning as the QB BUT the backs/receiving core is the problem here with Graham and Moss both out...I've got TJ as WR 1 but David Patten from waiver land for number two. Backs are Portis and Marion Barber.

It's going to be close...and we're getting ready to cringe, fellow fantasy fanatics.

Fan IQ Update: Red for the first time in the NHL this week and green (just a little) in NBA.

NBX update: Let's just forget it, shall we... (yes, that bad.)
The Lightning finally snapped the road streak losing blues last night!

And the Tampa Bay Devil Rays are now just The Rays

Good day again in Fan IQ yesterday both green again for NBA and NHL. My NBX picks are sucking on the other hand.

2 more days until week 10 bye hell week in fantasy football. I'm actually starting Jason Campbell on one of my teams.

Mishmash Post...

Looks like the 7th season of 24 is on hold along with many other shows...so I offer up as the emergency plot:

24: Season 6.5

Jack Bauer is called in by the President to put a stop to the writers strike. In the first episode, Jack goes to a sportsbar to forget about the last seasons ending and somehow winds up in a fight with Pacman Jones, currently on "vacation" from the NFL.

And kids are getting detention for hugging friends...I can imagine the following scene in a typical dentention session:

Kid #1: I was late for class...what are you in for?

Kid #2: I hugged my friends.

From the insanity of the headline news to the insanity of sports.

I'm still dreading week 10 with folks like Brady, Moss, Garcia and even yes Earnest Graham on a bye...but still...

How about this Rogers stiff arm of Young (and did Young LOSE any fantasy points for that?)

Fan IQ Report:

Another good day!

NBA: 5 - 3 (Miami lost by 10 and Kobe didn't whine about anything)

NHL: 6 - 2 (And the Lightning finally broke the losing streak. Hopefully they won't create another one.)

Quick Blast Results For WK 9

Everyone save for the Bay City Buccaneers won. Afterburners somehow won by 2 points! All the Yahoo teams and the Fleaflicker teams WON!

Now comes the hard part with so many Tampa and New England players...I will hope to not get trashed too badly this week...

Week 9 Matchup Concerns

Here are some of the fantasy decisions I'm mulling over have made (but am not reversing...that's the hardest thing on Sunday morning...decisions, decisions)

Contender Questionables:

Starting Derek Anderson v. Seattle (12th against passing) as opposed to Drew Brees v. Jacksonville 16th against passing) honestly Brees may be on fire...but Anderson has had the better year so far. Brees has 89 points to Andersons 138 (!)

Update: Drew would have been the better choice but Anderson had a decent day.

Starting Shaun Alexander...even against Cleveland's 25th ranked D...but Alexander has been pretty rank himself in fantasy this year.

Update: He sucks this year, sorry Shaun...

Redshirts:

Starting Marshawn Lynch OVER Westbrook...however Lynch goes up against the Bengals who give up as many points as they score and Westy goes up against the Cowboys who are ranked 5TH against the rush.

NewEffect:

Garcia edges out Kitna barely in matchups as Arizona and Denver are both tough against the pass. Garcia, in this league, has had a better fantasy year so far with 104 points while Kitna has 89 points.

Update: Kitna would have been a marginally better start. Both QB's had decent days.

Tampa Thunder:

Am I really worried about how Peyton Manning and Randy Moss are going to do as their teams collide for this colossal contest?

Update: Nope, plus good game to boot...other then the outcome. Thanks for staying classy after the game again, BB.

Stormfront/Southland Bulls:

Kenton Keith v Kenny Watson is the biggest question answered with both different outcomes thanks to both teams. (Wait, what? Drink some more caffine and you'll get it.)

Update: Both of them were pretty quiet production wise today.

Just a few questions and later today we shall indeed know the answers.

And you have to give Florida State major props and high fives for knocking off #2 Boston College yesterday!

Triple Triple On Fan IQ

Last night the NBA (7 - 6) lead my picks at a whopping 14.50 points, followed by College Football (1 - 0) action in at 5 points and bringing up the rear was the NHL (5 - 1) with 4.5 points. Rare night with all green and NO RED!

And just 1 day until the biggest NFL game of the regular season with Tom "I Love Babes" Brady and Peyton "I'll Sell Anything" Manning getting it on (maybe I shouldn't say getting it on with Brady in the same sentence...) in the RCA Dome where Peyton is king.

Until then...

Can USF get it together and win?

(Um...nope.)

Can Florida recover from last week?

(Yeppers...and how!)

And does Notre Dame stand a chance of actually winning today against Navy?

(Close but no cigar...)

We'll all see today, fellow football fans!

(And the Lightning lost again...this time at HOME to the Thrashers!)
